Explanation of Techniques

EMDR - Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is considered a powerful and scientifically researched method designed for relieving psychological distress of all kinds, but especially it has been shown to be useful for post-traumatic stress disorder. EMDR is thought to work neurobiologically and drains emotions from disturbing memories.

EFT - Emotional Freedom Techniques is an innovative energy technique based on the newly emerging field of energy psychology. The prevailing premise of EFT is that the flow and balance of the body’s electromagnetic and more subtle energies are important for physical, spiritual, and emotional health, and for fostering well-being. EFT uses the ancient Chinese meridian system to balance the energy system with a gentle tapping procedure which stimulates designated meridian end points on the face and body while focusing on issues of emotional intensity in order to release the intensity and reframe the issues. This tool is based on the theory that negative emotions are the result of blocked energy in the body, and the tapping unblocks the clogged energy to ease symptoms. EFT has several applications, including use as a self-help tool, a coaching method, as well as a therapeutic technique for health care professionals. It can be taught easily in session, and clients are encouraged to use this technique for any physical or emotional problems or discomforts.

Reiki - Reiki is an energy healing art with its roots in Japanese origin. It is considered a subtle and effective form of energy work using guided life force energy believed to help reduce stress and accelerate the healing process and assist the body’s natural ability to restore health. Reiki incorporates the use of the human hand as the tool for moving and harmonizing the body’s energies and fields. A Reiki session can be either hands-on where the Reiki practitioner applies a light touch or hands-off where the Reiki practitioner holds his/her hands slightly above the body. This healing energy can also be passed from the Reiki practitioner to others not only through light touch, but also through physical distance and time. Most people find that Reiki is very relaxing and calming, and usually feel a sense of warmth, tingling, and well-being during and after a session. Regular Reiki treatments may help to stabilize mental health issues and promote well-being on all levels. When one learns how to do Reiki, it can be used on self and others, animals, plants, and on any "thing" that needs some help, even machines! Reiki can be learned by anyone, and as a Reiki master, I am able to teach it and pass along this wonderful tool through an attunement process. This is usually done in a class, but also can be taught in an individual format. Please contact me if you wish to receive a Reiki treatment, or a Reiki attunement to enable yourself to use Reiki.

Equine-assisted Psychotherapy – can be a truly wonderful experience that incorporates the use of horses as part of treatment for emotional growth and learning. It involves exercises on the ground in an arena with horses (not riding them), which are designed to allow stubborn problems to surface in sometimes unexpected and amazing ways. Horses have unique ways of expressing and working through client issues, and through using them in the arena can be surprisingly productive, interesting, and unique. Equine-assisted sessions are arranged as needed, and are held at stables in the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan areas and near Reading, PA.
